Magnetic Shields are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic, experienced individual to join our team as Health & Safety Manager. This is a standalone role with real opportunity for the right person to shape Health & Safety within the Company going forward. Whilst we have a good safety culture, this role needs to continue driving cultural change as the Company continues to develop.
Established for over 50 years, we are leading specialists in the design, manufacture, and installation of bespoke magnetic shielding solutions and magnetically shielded rooms. We have an expanding customer base throughout the UK, Europe, USA and Asia that includes blue-chip companies in the quantum technology, electronics, aerospace, automotive, medical and pharmaceutical sectors.
With a full manufacturing facility in Staplehurst, Kent fully equipped with the latest technology, we are able to provide our customers with the highest level of service and quality. All of our manufacturing processes, including heat treatment, are integrated in our production plant. Due to continued growth, we are expanding into our new production facility on site, which is an exciting opportunity for the H&S manager to be involved in the development and management of the H&S requirements. This role is also responsible for health and safety for our small sister company based in Horley.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, structured, and adaptable in their approach as priorities can alter quickly. They will be an organised person with a commercial mindset and confident in managing H&S driven projects as a direct result of business growth. This role is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to join an expanding company as a H&S Manager looking to take on an exciting challenge in a new environment. The role also currently line manages the maintenance team.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide H&S direction to the Senior Leadership team, supporting management to improve the H&S performance across the Company
- To promote an open H&S culture within the Company through engagement with management and staff, providing advice for positive action and feedback
- Act as subject matter expert on all H&S related queries
- Design, develop and lead H&S initiatives/plans and implement best practice
- Provide expertise on projects to achieve KPI implementation and compliance
- Be responsible in ensuring H&S policies & procedures are adhered to, completing necessary reviews to ensure legislative requirement are fully adhered to
- Ensure all documentation is maintained to show compliance to H&S best practise, including method statements, risk assessments, etc.
- Chair H&S committee meetings and lead by example in all aspects of H&S
- Liaise with external stakeholders on H&S matters where required: customers, contractors, enforcement bodies, insurance inspectors, etc.
- Ensure all staff receive a high standard H&S related induction and ongoing training in order to carry out their function safely & effectively
- Develop and manage the H&S budgets to ensure appropriate investment is carried out on H&S improvements
- Implementing metrics and business processes, analysing data to identify risks, trends and opportunities
Qualifications & Experience
- Hold professional qualifications; NEBOSH diploma or equivalent as a minimum
- At least 3-5 years H&S professional experience within a transferable manufacturing/engineering environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to successfully drive behavioural change
- Compelling influencer with ability to lead by example
- Strong leadership skills to guide, support and motivate staff
- A solid understanding of the key principals of H&S legislation
- Proficient IT skills with strong knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines
- Organised administrator
Desirable Skills
- Experience of working in an ISO9001 accredited Engineering company
- Experience of working within ISO18001/45001 H&S management system
- Chartered professional status or willing to work towards chartership
- Line management experience
